Up for grabs is an F.P. Journe Octa Jour/Nuit
Only 99 pieces were ever made for this model and there hasn’t been another version besides the ruthenium one. Each watch is numbered between 1 and 99. The production period also only between 2001 and 2003.
The case is made in solid platinum and measures 40mm
Interestingly, the Octa Jour et Nuit was only ever made for the Ruthenium Collection, making it all the more unusual. Indeed, it has no counterpart in normal production, making it one of the rarer complications produced by the FPJ.
Aesthetically, the pieces from the Ruthenium Collection are rather distinctive. The dials feature the grainy texture and shimmer which has come to be associated with the early pieces, while at the same time offering the depth of a darker colortone, which is broadly absent from Journe’s production. Ruthenium has a complex color, which varies depending on the angle and intensity of the light. The dials can go anywhere from a dark, charcoal color to a lighter, smoke grey. This particular dial has developed attractive patina already making it basically unique.
The Octa Jour et Nuit builds on the movement of the Octa Réserve de Marche, with the incorporation of a day and night indicator below the power reserve.
The brass caliber 1300 is also ruthenium coated.
The watch comes complete with the special Ruthenium Collection inner wooden box. This set included a FPJ loupe, strap changing tool, polishing cloth, extra deployment buckle and an extra black FPJ strap. The watch also is accompanied by FPJ certificate and manual.
A very rare and attractive piece for a more advanced FPJ collector.
