Up for grabs is a Parmigiani Fleurier Pantograph
An early 2010’s model from the Ovale Collection, the Pantographe is not just an 18k rose gold, oval watch with fancy-looking hands.
The Pantographe takes its name from a drafting tool consisting of cross-linked mechanical arms, which was used to scale up or scale down drawings; the arms of a pantograph look very similar to the telescoping hands of the Pantographe watch. Based on an oval English pocket watch from year 1800, the hands on this Parmigiani extend and retract as they travel around the dial. Since the shape of the watch is oval, the distance between center post and the outer edge of the dial is different depending on position, and the idea is that each hand should point at the same relative spot of the dial. The result is that we have the hour and minute hands at their shortest at 3 and 9 o’clock, while extending to their longest sizes at 12 and 6 o’clock. The hands themselves are made of blued aluminum.
The in-house calibre PF111 movement also features an 8-day power reserve and a date function, both of which are displayed in a balanced way. A display back shows off the movement and its finishing.
The case shows as 45mm x 37.6mm on paper, but thanks to the curved lugs, the watch wears very comfortably even on smaller sized wrists. There are no dings, dents, or major scratches on it.
The dial is white lacquer finished with blued markers and numerals. It is damage-free.
The original dark blue strap is cosigned by Hermes, the maker of the strap for PF, is held together by the original rose gold PF buckle.
There are no box or papers for this watch, but it does come with a past service receipt.
