Up for grabs is an early example of F.P. Journe Chronometer Resonance
This F.P. Journe Chronometre a Resonance is one of the first standard production Resonance watches made, dating back to 2001. Housed within a 38mm platinum case, it displays a range of distinctive features only found on the earliest pieces, from the two-tone sub-dials to the intense shimmer of the white gold dial.
While choosing to buy an iconic, and for many the “ultimate Journe”, model like the Resonance, one cannot simply decide on size of the case, color of the dial, and movement material, the process must go further than that. As the brand developed and grew, the production processes and techniques were progressively upgraded and many details and finishings changed. For example, the two small holes we see on the FPJ winding crowns were initially there to help Francois-Paul secure it in place, while he would finish the rope-like pattern by hand.
The intensity and shimmer of the dials gradually diminish throughout the lifespan of the Resonance. As you can see in the photos, this dial still shows high level of graininess and shimmer. This watch also has a thinner font typography on the power reserve compared to the later ones. It also features early two-tone subdials, where the minute and hour track are silver, and the guilloche pattern in the middle is a crisp white color. Another main feature of this watch which is only correct for early production pieces is the seconds hands; they are much thicker in contrast to newer, thinner hands.
The case remains without any notable scratches and without dings or dents.
The brass movement is proudly displayed in the back and functions as it should, which seconds hands staying in sync as they should.
Furthermore, the watch’s original and early production FPJ strap still remains in excellent condition. These early straps do not have the quick release spring-bars and still have the light colored underside. A sign that this watch has not been worn often.
It comes as a full set with original box set, warranty card, and manual, making this example that much more special and important for an advanced FPJ collector.
I will also offer to cover the cost of a complete service by FPJ if sent in to them within 6 months of ownership as a token of appreciation.
