Up for grabs is a Rolex OP TRU-Beat

6556 reference in steel

139,XXX serial number circa 1956 production

This is a seldom seen reference produced only for a few years in 1950’s. The caliber 1040 has a “Dead-Seconds” complication which allows the seconds hand to “tick” rather than sweep. The watch has been designed and marketed to medical professionals enabling them to calculate their patients’ pulse more accurately.

Excellent vintage condition case without major dings or dents. Serial and reference numbers are intact and visible.

Dial is original, radium, crosshair with orange patina on plots. No refinish, no relume. Still active under Geiger Counter. Hands are original, sword, with correct and original red Seconds hand.

Caseback is original, in excellent condition. Outer “stainless steel” engraving is still clearly visible, but usually lost due to wear and polish. Inside is stamped 6556 and I.56

The movement is all original, caliber 1040. This is another reason why this example is great. The reference didn’t survive for long in production and parts were limited. Most of the watch that went to Rolex for routine service, had the movement swapped to 1030 by Rolex in future. This one has survived. The movement runs well and “ticks” as it should.

Bracelet is a solid link Rolex 78350 with 557 ends, 13 links total, tight condition, O date code.

No box or papers. No documented service history.
