Up for grabs is a Rolex OysterDate

Reference 6494 with manual wind movement, 34mm

305,XXX serial number circa 1957 production, purchased new in 1958.

Excellent vintage condition case without any corrosion or pitting. Even lugs. Serial and reference numbers are visible.

Dial is original, radium and very clean. No chips, scratches, excessive aging, etc. Original dauphine hands with blued steel seconds. Nice and clean original roulette date disk with red and black alternating numbers.

Caseback is original, inside is stamped 6494 and dated in 1957.

Watch comes on unworn leather strap with steel buckle.

This watch was purchased from a family member of original owner, lieutenant colonel Daniel Kavadas who purchased this watch new in 1958 from a US military exchange store in Germany. The watch comes complete with its original Rolex box, which is rare to find today on its own. The warranty papers are dated in 1958, the name of the owner is printed and its stamped with Exchange as the selling dealer at this time. The serial number is handwritten and it is my assumption that the sales clerk made a mistake, as its off by 3 digits from the number on case. Perhaps they had several in stock and they wrote down the wrong one. The sales receipt also has the matching name and dated in 1958. The way these accessories tie in with the watch is here: the caseback is marked by past RSC service from 1992 with job reference number 61647. A letter written to RSC from Mr. Kavadas is also included which references the same job number, 61647. Obviously the name on the letter is the same as the printed name on guarantee and written name on sales receipt. A scanned copy is posted for you to see, but original paper letter is included.
