Up for grabs is a Tudor Submariner Big Crown
Reference 7924
282,XXX serial number circa 1959 production
An incredible find and possibly best preserved condition Big Crown Sub known. This watch was discovered in August of 2019 at an estate sale in Wisconsin and sold by the widow of original owner. The watch is 100% as found, with nothing replaced, added, or taken away. A little bit of polywatch was used to clear up the original crystal and show off the amazing dial, but nothing was polished.
The case is in extremely nice condition with original chamfers still visible and numbers clearly visible between the lugs.
The dial is fantastic with all of its radium plots intact, original gilt hands with original lume. The dial is brown under sunlight and pops with color very well. If you have been on a hunt for a 7924, you know the majority of these have either refinished, relumed, or replaced dials. This is original and damage-free!
The bezel insert is original and incredible red triangle with its radium pip still intact!
The caseback is stamped 7924 and dated ’59 inside as should be. The outside has an engraving USN 292812. The number seems to be a case serial number close in range to this case. It is believed that this watch, along with a batch of others, was issued by US NAVY to the owner to be used for testing/diving. During a routine service/inspection of the watch, the watchmaker must’ve accidentally swapped casebacks between two of the watches. This further proves the originality of this watch without anything being added or removed.
The bracelet is also original and correct USA C&I supporting the USA origin of the watch with ’61 date on clasp.
This is an incredible opportunity to own one of the best 7924’s ever found.
