Up for grabs is an Omega Speedmaster Pre-Professional

2998-3 reference

177621XX serial number is perfectly within range of -3 sub-reference.

Excellent vintage condition case with thick lugs. The case has been polished and obviously worn, but you can still make out the original chamfered lugs.

Winding crown is service replacement. The pushers appear to be original.

Dial is original, and correct SWISS MADE only step with radium. Even though most of the luminous material has flaked off, whats left is still active under Geiger counter. Reference 2998-3 is the first reference to use this dial.

The hour and minute hands are service replacement Alpha hands. The chrono sweep hand is correct white and straight. The subdials hands are also original “leaf”.

Sub-reference 2998-3 is also the first one to adopt the DON bezel with 500 scale, moving away from BASE 1000 bezel. This bezel shows age and fade and works well with overall look of the watch.

Caseback is original, it is correctly stamped 2998-3 inside. Outer side of it still retains a sharp bevel, doesn’t show any deep tool marks and fully retains the Hippocampus logo.

The watch also retains its correct polished inner bezel ring.

Watch comes on unworn vintage leather strap with steel buckle.

No box or papers. No documented service history. The watch winds smoothly, runs and chrono runs, stops and resets back to zero as should.
