Up for grabs is a magnificent Omega Speedmaster
Reference 2998-1
173011XX serial number circa 1960 production. The serial number of the movement is perfectly inline with correct range for -1 sub-reference of 2998.
The case is original with nice and thick lugs. It is also a correct case for this reference with a “notch” at 12 oclock side which was only made in 2915’s and early 2998’s. The notch was made from factory along with another notch on the bezel to help with aligning the bezel during install.
The pushers are original and the crown is original “mercedes”
The dial is original, correct “low swiss made” for a 2998-1. Amazing condition with very even tropical brown color throughout. I included pictures of the dial in shade, in sun and also dial outside of the case to show you the condition and color. All pictures are taken outside in natural light. No artificial lights, no flash, no filters. The dial has original radium luminous material which has aged to an orange colored patina. The hands are original and correct for this reference with white leaf subdial hands and white straight chrono hand.
The movement is correct and original cal. 321 first generation with symmetrical clutch-lever bridge as well as straight arrow point indicator.
The bezel is original and correct black Base 1000. Shows signs of wear and use, but very hard to find to be original.
The crystal has been replaced on the watch to better show off the dial. It is OEM Omega hesalite crystal.
Bracelet is the original reference 7077 with double stretchable links and small clasp. Original “6” end-links. Bracelet is in tight condition for its age and all spring loaded links are in nice shape. The bracelet itself is hard to find.
Caseback is in superb vintage condition. The outer HIppocampus is very clear and sharp. No major tool marks or scratches. Inside is stamped 2998-1.
No service history or accessories. Will include the scratched original crystal which was found on the watch.
