Up for grabs is a Tudor Submariner No-Date

7928 reference number

338,XXX serial number circa very early 1961 production

Excellent vintage condition case with thick and even lugs and sharp PCG crown guards. Previously polished. No corrosion or pitting. Serial and reference numbers show signs of wear from bracelet, but numbers are clearly no altered with or re-engraved and you can clearly see the top parts of them.

The dial is original, SWISS only, Chapter Ring with gilt print. This dial has aged to an extremely attractive caramel brown color which is very obvious under any light and uniform. The luminous material is original, puffy, with correct texture and fully intact. It briefly glows after being exposed to light as it should. The hands are original, gilt with big bubble and have been matched with radium to color of dial plots.

Bezel insert is a “ghost” faded fat font in very attractive condition.

Caseback is original, stamped 7928 and I.61 inside. The outside is engraved with original owner’s first name initial and last name. This matches the original sales receipt which was found with the watch.

This watch was found and comes with period correct Rolex inner and outer boxes. I believe this watch was sold with these boxes as the original Tudor caseback sticker is still attached to bottom of the inner box.

The watch was also found with a Tudor warranty booklet. It also makes sense to be original to the watch as it is partially filled in with 7928, printed in 1960 and stamped MAY 1962, which is probably when it was shipped to the AD.

To further reinforce the originality of accessories, the watch comes with sales receipt dated October 1962, buyer’s name matches the engraving on caseback and the watch is described as Rolex/Tudor. Perhaps it is a coincidence, but its interesting to note that the price which they sold it for was 83.95 before tax and the last 4 digits of the serial number appears to be 8395.

No documented service history. The watch runs well.
