Up for grabs is a Rolex Submariner in steel
Reference 5513
1.024,XXX serial number circa 1963 production
Pointed crown guard case with a very rare and only seen for less than a year “underline” dial. These dials were only produced in 1963 and still retain the “swiss” only on bottom with silver underline on dial indicating the transitional period when Rolex stops using radium lume mixture and moves on to tritium compound.
The case remains in excellent vintage condition with clear numbers between thick lugs and nice pointed crown guards. The case has been repolished by LA Watch works with their “vintage polish” service which maintains the sides untouched and only redefines the chamfers and brushed finish on top of the lugs.
The dial is original, gilt and gloss underline with Swiss only and open chapter ring. It remains glossy and scratch or chip free with vibrant gilt colors of the print. Some of the lume plots have luminous material loss. The hands were relumed by LA Watchworks to match the patina of the dial.
The crystal is new
The bezel has faded out to an attractive “ghost gray” with bezel pearl still intact. Correct and original “long 5” version.
The caseback is original. Inside is stamped 5513 and dated 1963.
The bracelet is original Rolex 5506 spring-stretch Rivet with correct “75” end-links and 1968 date stamp on clasp. No major dents and all links are still stretchable without any springs being broken or worn out.
No box or papers. No service history.
