Up for grabs is a Rolex Sea-Dweller
1665 reference, “Double Red”
4.20 mil serial number circa late 1974 production
This watch has been found and bought from original and still living owner who purchase the watch new in 1980 from a local AD to him and I. Just goes to show you that production dates by serial number is sometimes far apart from actual purchase of the watch. It appears to have been with AD for a while, hence they even discounted it 15% according to original sales receipt.
Excellent vintage condition case is without major dings or dents. Lugs are thick and even. No corrosion or pitting. Serial and reference numbers are fully intact and clearly visible.
Dial is original MK4 with cream patina on plots and hands. Date disk is with open 6’s and 9’s. The dial has 2 small chips on edge of dial at 7 minute marker and 50 minute marker. Otherwise the dial is free of tool marks, drag marks, etc. All lume is fully intact.
Bezel insert is fat font.
The crystal has been changed as the owner did not like the ” high domed” look as he said it was distorting the dial a bit for him. The original crystal was saved and is included in this package.
Caseback is original, damage free. Inside is stamped 1665 with full serial number matching to the case.
Bracelet is original Rolex with 580 ends, VC date code, patented stamped diver’s extension and extra links.
The watch is also accompanied by Rolex boxes, manuals, warranty papers dated in ’80, stamped by AD matching the sales receipt, punched serial number and handwritten reference “1665”. Original sales receipt matches the date and AD name and correct MSRP for 1665 during this time.
Very nice and complete set, an honest watch with only one previous owner.
