1978 Tudor Submariner Hybrid ref. 94010 “MilSpec, Orange Patina”

Up for grabs is a Tudor Submariner

This is a so-called “hybrid” Submariner with Snowflake hands but with dial having round and rectangular markers. These were mainly used as military issued watches for Royal Canadian Navy, but further research shows that these were also probably used by USN during this time and even not issued at all and available for civilians. The history behind this watch is that it is a fresh and raw find from California. It walked into a coin shop and sold along with some old jewelry by a lady. There is no provenance, no cool story, etc. There is no engraving on back like some of the issued watches had. I do not believe this watch was issued by RCN, but I do believe it has some kind of military history in US, as it came out of San Diego.

The watch is presented and sold as found (with strap added of course). Case is in original condition with thick lugs and crown guards. Serial and reference numbers are visible.

Dial is original with orange patina on plots and matching patina on hands. Dial has a tool mark by base of hands, but no chips, no relume, etc.

Bezel insert is original with fat font typography.

Caseback is original.

Movement is correct 2776 with 17 jewels so it proves it was a North America delivered watch.

Crystal has some scratches and marks, but left as is.

This watch doesn’t carry any military provenance, but still is a very rare model and its been years since the last one I found like this.
