1979 Rolex Thunderbird ref. 16250 “Purple Dial”

Up for grabs is a Rolex Turnograph “Thunderbird”

Reference 16250 with 36mm case, factory rotating bezel, acrylic crystal, quickset movement.

6.2 mil serial number circa 1979 production

Excellent vintage condition watch with even lugs and very crisp bezel.

Very attractive and well preserved original dial. It most likely started its life as blue and has aged to a very vivid purple color, similar to blue dial Subs from this era. Every single lume plots is fully intact and has developed very nice patina. As it happens to pretty much all of these watches with colored dials during this era, there is “tritium burn” around each plot from age.

Watch was found and is sold as is with Rolex boxes, manuals, hang tag, original caseback sticker, and a card signed USN Captain and serial number of the watch on back. No additional provenance was found or known.
