1985 Rolex Explorer 2 ref. 16550 Black Dial, Vivid Patina

Up for grabs is a Rolex Explorer 2

Reference 16550 with 40mm case, cal. 3085 movement, transitional model made for about 3 years before switching to 16570 which remained in production for over 20 years.

The case is the same as 16570, the bezel has a different, more square font. The dials on these are also known to be collectible with white ones turning cream color as well as the black ones developing strong patina.

This watch is in excellent vintage condition with very nicely polished case with chamfers. Very clean and even. Legible numbers.

Original and nice dial with strong patina. Hands are tritium and original, lighter in patina. If you look closely, the dial surface has lacquer degradation in even sort of “spotting”. Only visible under certain angle up close.

Original date disk with open 6’s and 9’s.

Nice and original Rolex 78360 bracelet with 13 links, I date code, and 501 ends.
