1985 Rolex Submariner ref. 16808 Yellow Gold “Black Nipple Dial, Unpolished”

Up for grabs is a Rolex Submariner Date

Reference 16808 in 18kt yellow gold with sapphire crystal

8.7 serial number circa 1985 production

Excellent vintage condition watch with a case that shows of wear, but also remains unpolished with factory chamfers and sharp lug holes, a rarely seen condition for gold Subs in general, and especially for this era. Fully legible numbers between the lugs.

The dial is original, matte black with “nipple” markers and applied Rolex coronet. Dial is flawless and without any scratches, chips, or stains. Nice patina throughout. Original date disk with open 6’s and 9’s.

Original and clean bezel insert with tritium pearl.

The caseback remains unpolished and even still has some of the fading from the factory sticker

The bracelet is original Rolex 92908 in tight condition and with correct 46 ends. There are 11 links total including the link from diver’s extension. The bracelet also has the period correct date code, K. If you have been searching for one of these watches, you will also appreciate the fact that the clasp Rolex coronet is nice and sharp. Most of these are usually either polished down or worn down from wear or a combination of those.
