Up for grabs is an Urban Jurgensen Perpetual Calendar
Reference 2 with platinum 38mm case
This watch is from the Baumberger owned era of Urban Jurgensen. During this period Derek Pratt was working on most of the watches, even engine turning many of the dials himself, as well.
These watches featured a very well balanced 38mm platinum case with tear drop lugs. The perpetual calendar module is said to have been Derek Pratt’s own creation based on a highly-refined Frédéric Piguet calibre. The scholarship of the brand is a bit murky today, given that it has changed ownership multiple times, but it is believed about 175 perpetual models were ever created between yellow, rose, and platinum versions and it is estimated only about 50 were in platinum altogether. This also includes Reference 3 models, which had an up/down power reserved in addition to Ref. 2’s complications.
Current owner and CEO Kari Voutilainen, who has worked alongside with Dererk Pratt on detent escapement Urban Jurgensen wristwatch, amongst other projects, in the 2000’s and also finished some of the dials, is set to relaunch the brand in 2025. Meanwhile, his daughter and watchmaker, Venla Voutilainen currently oversees the after sales department and will gladly help you with servicing these “vintage” UJ’s as well search whatever archives are available for more information regarding your piece. This particular example was serviced by Urban Jurgensen in June of 2024 and will come with the receipt. A certificate of authenticity was also issued for this watch by Kari and is included with the watch.
The current example remains in excellent vintage condition and I’ve asked them not to repolish the watch during the service. Only light marks are visible form wear, without any major scratches or dings/dents.
The caseback remains seemingly unpolished on outside and is in excellent condition.
The day and month disks are in Italian language.
I’ve asked them to make a UJ branded strap for this watch, which remains in unworn condition today. The original UJ platinum buckle was preserved.
There are no boxes or other accessories.
