Up for grabs is an Omega Seamaster 300M
Reference 2531.80.00 with 41mm case, automatic movement, tritium dial
496751XX serial number circa 1993 production, the first year of this model’s production.
This model is so-called “Bond Seamaster”and gained its popularity during the Pierce Brosnan era of James Bond movies as he wore it in the movies. Daniel Craig also wore this model in “Casino Royale” James Bond movie. Even though the actual watch they were was the quartz version, but that’s a technicality.
Because of its popularity, a relatively affordable MSRP of about $1500 and simply time, most of these were worn hard, without any concern or thought about future “value” or anything of that nature. Because of that, I would say over 95% of these found today are in decent condition, many with replaced parts, many polished, most without any accessories or papers. So, to find an example before you is extremely rare and I would say I’ve only had a few in the last decade of watch hunting and dealing.
This example is extremely well preserved, it has developed an intense vivid yellow patina, and remains unpolished. Not only is it unpolished, but also remains in very mint condition without any notable scratches, dings or dents. It would appear that someone bought it, wore it for awhile (we do see some dried up “gunk” under the lugs, and then just put it away.
During this era, Omega still used the red wax sea on the caseback from factory. This watch still has it intact. So, it was never opened before, it was never messed with inside, and we can say with confidence that nothing has been replaced. This also means that there was never a service done, but you honestly shouldn’t be buying this particular example for its timekeeping abilities, but rather to add to your collection.
The bracelet remains tight and has some minor marks on clasp and links, but remains unpolished and well preserved. The links which were removed, were saved and are included in the box.
The bezel is very clean without any corrosion or scratches. Original “pip” that is tritium and matching in patina.
Cherry on top is that it has its original box with barcode sticker with matching numbers. It also has its manuals, warranty card dated in 1993, original hang tag with matching numbers, and the rare seen Omega chronometer hang tag.
