38mm F.P. Journe Octa Universal Time Coordinated ref. UTC in Platinum

Up for grabs is an F.P. Journe Octa UTC.

This is one of approximately 15 Octa UTC examples believed to have been produced in the 38mm case. Of those, only four are believed to have been made in platinum with a white gold (grey) dial.

The Octa UTC takes its name from Coordinated Universal Time and approaches the second time zone differently from a conventional GMT complication. Its UTC display provides a visual representation of the selected time zone, with +1 and -1 positions allowing for adjustments such as daylight saving and summer time.

The watch is powered by the self-winding F.P. Journe calibre 1300.3 in solid rose gold.

This example features the discontinued 38mm platinum case. A corrector integrated into the caseband at 4 o’clock controls the UTC display.

The suddial dial is specific to the UTC in several details, including matte blue hour markers on the 12-hour track and matte gold markers on the 24-hour track. The UTC display features a polar representation of the Earth beneath a sapphire disc indicating the world’s time zones.

The watch remains unpolished and in excellent condition, with no dings, dents, or deep scratches.

The 38mm Octa UTC is rarely encountered publicly, with very few examples appearing in recorded secondary-market sales.
