De Bethune DB28GS “Yellow Submarine” w. Miniature Dynamo Lighting

Introduced in 2020 as a limited edition of just 25 pieces, the DB28GS Yellow Submarine is one of De Bethune’s most technically advanced sports watches. While retaining the signature floating lugs, exposed balance wheel, and crown at 12 o’clock that define the DB28 collection, it introduces a striking yellow color palette achieved entirely through thermal oxidation of grade 5 titanium rather than coatings or paint. Each component is individually heat-treated, resulting in subtle variations that make every watch unique.

The 44mm case combines yellow thermally oxidized grade 5 titanium with a black zirconium case middle, creating a watch that is remarkably lightweight despite its size. Water resistance is rated to 105 meters, while the patented floating lugs allow the watch to conform comfortably to the wrist.

Powering the watch is the manually wound in-house caliber DB2080. The movement consists of approximately 400 components and features De Bethune’s titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts, proprietary balance spring, triple shock protection system, twin self-regulating barrels, and a five-day power reserve.

Perhaps the most fascinating feature is the watch’s fully mechanical lighting system. Rather than using batteries or electronic components, pressing the pusher at 6 o’clock spins a miniature dynamo—a compact electrical generator that converts rotational mechanical energy into direct current (DC) electricity through electromagnetic induction—producing enough power to illuminate the dial for several seconds. The rotating dive-time scale is positioned beneath the sapphire crystal rather than on a conventional external bezel, further distinguishing the DB28GS from traditional dive watches.

The watch comes fitted with its original natural rubber strap and is accompanied by the additional canvas strap. It also comes with a De Bethune Certificate of Origin papers.
