Up for grabs is an F.P. Journe Tourbillon Souverain
This is a very special watch in many ways with several “firsts” for the brans as well as lasts.
The watch itself is “T” reference, the first Tourbillon model by FPJ with brass movement and visible remontoire traditionally made with 38mm case
The Ruthenium limited edition version of this watch is the first and only version of T with 40mm case. This means only 99 pieces were ever made with 40mm case and is your only choice for a visible remontoire tourbillon FPJ if 38mm is too small for your wrist. This limited edition is also the first time FPJ uses ruthenium coating on dial and movement. The charcoal grey surface is delicately textured, giving the dial a mixture of tones and added depth. The ruthenium plating reflects light differently, transitioning to a smokey, silver hue from different angles. Like with many FPJ dials, especially early ones, it is very difficult to capture with photos alone and the dials has to be observed from different angles and different lighting settings to fully appreciate it. At your request, I have several videos available to show off the dial and the workings of remontoire and the one-minute tourbillon. After almost 20 years of life, this dial remains shimmery and oxidation-free.
This manual-winding, F.P. Journe caliber 1498 tourbillon movement is ruthenium-plated brass decorated with Côtes de Genève. The Ruthenium collection pieces were the last to use brass movement for almost 20 years until the 20th Anniversary Reserve de Marche was made in a limited edition of 99 pieces in 2021. Starting in 2004 FPJ starts using 18k rose gold to make the movements.
This limited edition watch also came with a special, model Ruthenium Collection specific box set which included a dark colored wood exterior with gray interior. Each Ruthenium box set also included a loupe, strap changing tool, an extra deployment buckle, a polishing close, and an extra strap. All of these still remain with this watch and are included. In addition to the accessories, the original certificate and manual are also included.
The platinum case appears to be unpolished with minor signs of wear in form of light scratches and “dulling” typical of platinum alloys. A complimentary professional polish is offered with your purchase.
Since there is no service history on this piece, I will offer to cover the cost of factory service of the watch within 6 months of purchase. Currently the watch works fine and keeps time.
