Kari Voutilainen Inverse 28Pi – Unique Piece in Platinum
Up for grabs is a unique execution of the Inverse 28Pi—Voutilainen’s creative take on the Vingt-8, where the movement is inverted to display the escapement and oversized balance wheel on the dial side.
The Inverse series was limited to just 28 pieces: 10 in platinum, 10 in tantalum, and 8 in titanium. This is the only example made with angular, elongated lugs—deviating from the typical teardrop design—crafted at the request of the original collector. One of the earliest departures from Kari’s standard case style.
The openworked dial reveals Kari’s signature finishing throughout: a light grey chapter ring with signed cartouche, Breguet-style hands in white metal with blued accents, and dual escape wheels subtly positioned below the free-sprung balance. On the reverse, open bridges for the power reserve and seconds complete the architecture, balancing both sides of the watch visually and mechanically.
Additional gearing allows for traditional clockwise timekeeping despite the inverted movement. The calibre also incorporates Kari’s signature direct impulse escapement with twin escapement wheels, a Phillips overcoil, and Grossmann interior curve—a technical package rarely seen dial-side.
A unique piece from one of the most respected independents, representing both a technical and aesthetic evolution within Voutilainen’s body of work.
The watch comes complete with its original boxes and documents.
