Up for grabs is a Rolex Submariner “No Crown Guard”
5508 reference
490XXX serial number circa late 1959 production
This watch has been found semi-locally to me (few hours away) from original owner’s family. It was sold to a jewelry store and then sold down to me. I do not know much history on it, but I do know that this is first time this watch should be available for sale publicly and is in “as found” original condition.
Excellent vintage condition case with very thick and even lugs. Original bevels are still clearly evident on each lug. No corrosion or pitting. Serial and reference numbers are fully intact and clearly visible.
Dial is fantastic original gilt and very seldom seen “double silver” with silver depth and Submariner writing as well as exclamation point. Very glossy finish. No chips, corrosion, cracking in lacquer, no relume. Some light scratches can be seen under very certain angle and under loupe from being handled during service probably. The hands are correct and original silver hands for this dial.
Caseback is in excellent vintage condition, stamped 5508 and III.59
Movement is all original with butterfly rotor
No box or papers. No documented service history. Comes as head only, but can supply and include a strap with purchase.
