Up for grabs is an Omega Speedmaster MoonWatch

145.022 reference

399234XX serial number circa 1976 production

This watch has been found and acquired from a retired US Air Force pilot who purchased the watch new on May 1, 1976 from AF Exchange. The watch has been kept in original condition and has never been serviced or opened until recently.

Case is in excellent vintage condition. Shows signs of being worn, this is not a NOS watch, but definitely unpolished with original finish. Very crisp case, lugs, bracelet.

Dial is flawless. Beautiful patina on hands and plots on dial. No scratching, spotting, or else. Crystal is original and was only polished, not replaced, before listing for sale. I don’t believe it has ever been out of the case.

Bracelet is 1171 in unpolished condition as seen on clasp.

Caseback is super crisp, original finish on outside. Stamped 145.022 -76 inside. No service markings whatsoever on inside. The typical “gasket melt” of the caseback and case gasket is also additional evidence showing watch has not been touched in decades.

The box and other accessories did not survive the years, but original sales receipt, which was tucked between few pages of warranty book did. The warranty book was stamped and dated, but watch details never filled in. This is commonly seen with vintage Omega pieces.

The watch currently runs about half a minute fast per day. I would assume someone buying this would be adding to their collection and suggest keeping as is, original and untouched. If you are going to get it serviced and wear, I suggest only servicing the movement without refinish.
