Urban Jürgensen Reference 3 “Perpetual Calendar” in Platinum

Up for grabs is an Urban Jürgensen Reference 3 in platinum.

Introduced in 1993 as the successor to the Reference 2, the Reference 3 is one of the most important modern Urban Jürgensen wristwatches. Its defining evolution was the addition of a power reserve indicator, designed and patented by Derek Pratt. Production was extremely limited, with approximately 100 examples planned and fewer than a dozen believed to have been cased in platinum.

According to the Urban Jürgensen Extract of Archives, this watch was sold in 1998. While the exact production date is not documented, the serial number and comparison with other known examples suggest it was likely manufactured around 1994–1995.

The 38mm platinum case features individually forged and soldered teardrop lugs, a hallmark of the reference. The silver dial showcases a hand-executed guilloché center by Derek Pratt, framed by a Roman numeral chapter ring with day and month apertures, date, moonphase, and power reserve display.

Powering the watch is the automatic Calibre FP 71 with 45 jewels. In addition to the Extract of Archives, this example is accompanied by a factory Urban Jürgensen service receipt from 2019.

The watch is fitted on a signed Urban Jürgensen black leather strap with the original platinum pin buckle.
