1960 Rolex Explorer ref. 1016 “Chapter Ring, Gilt Exclamation Dial”

Up for grabs is a Rolex Explorer I

596,XXX serial number circa 1960 production.

Fresh to market piece in as found condition.

Very good vintage condition case with even lugs. Serial and reference numbers show wear from a bracelet, but still legible under a loupe.

The dial is original, gilt with chapter ring and exclamation point. The lacquer is fully matted out, but there is no damage or lume loss. Original gilt hands. Crystal has some scratches as expected.

Caseback is original, stamped 1016 inside and dated ’60

Movement is original with its original “butterfly” rotor.

The bracelet is a Rolex 7836 with 55 ends and ’72 date stamp.

No box or papers. No service history is known, the watch runs at +18 seconds with ~200 amplitude.
